Are you wondering 'what exactly is laminate flooring and where did it originate'?

Laminate floors are a spin off product from a company in the town of Perstorp, Sweden. Originally manufactures of vinegar for the European food market, the company grew and expanded its focus to specialty chemicals. In 1923 they developed a process for manufacturing decorative laminates for tabletops, a market which Perstorp AB quickly dominated. By 1950, the Perstorp company had greatly improved its’ laminates and was now churning out a wide variety of decorative laminate surfaces.

In 1977, the company developed the idea for laminate flooring and the product was introduced to the European market in 1984. In the late 1980's and early 1990's Pergo began to expand its flooring operations throughout Europe. In 1989 the brand Pergo was introduced and in 1994 Pergo laminate floors were introduced to the United States in 850 stores nation wide.
